This Is Just To Say - a dope poem, is posted below:
I have eaten the plums that were in the icebox and which you were probably saving for breakfast Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold This poem rules for many reasons. For me, it's because of the simplicity and open ended-ness. It's a good little chew toy for the mind. At a recent family gathering, I brought up the poem & got everyones take on it one at a time. The responses were interesting with relatively no overlap. A summarized version of the takes are below:
Dad: Plum eater (male) was genuinely sorry. He provided detail on the plums simply because, regrets aside, he thought it was genuinely interesting.
Hey, maybe they grew them in their garden!
Grandma: Plumb eater wasn't remotely sorry, this is scathing sarcasm
Sister: Harmless, witty banter between friends
Me: Calculated passive aggression, cold as the plums
Grandpa: Those weren't plums
If you're bored at the next family get-together, bust this poem out and get some takes.
Stay sweet.
